Reforesting Alladale Wilderness Reserve
Restoring Alladale
In 2021, your funds contributed to the planting of 3,125 trees at Alladale Wilderness Reserve in collaboration with Mossy Earth. This tree planting formed part of Alladale's wider initiative to restore an impressive one million trees across the region. The project has created the conditions for the recovery of enchanting local red squirrel populations and for a breeding programme that has helped with the gradual return of the elusive Scottish wildcat to the Cairngorms National Park.

TREE MISSION
Alladale is a 23,000 acre Wilderness Reserve that has put conservation at its heart. Restoring native woodland has been central to their mission. The new trees are now enriching the Reserve's soil with organic matter, providing essential habitat for fungi, plants and insects, and they will support precious native species like pine marten and red squirrel...

REINTRODUCTIONS
Alladale has also been focused on species reintroduction programmes. In partnership with the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation, 36 red squirrels were released in and around Alladale. As their numbers have grown, so have their confidence with individuals now seen around Alladale Lodge. In partnership with the Saving Wildcats project, wildcat enclosures were built on the reserve to house kittens as part of their reintroduction programme.
