TAKE THE LONG VIEW
It's been a tough 6 months for the fight to combat climate change. We’ve seen the issue of rising global temperatures politicised by numerous governments, popular movements push against a green transition, and the US cast aside hard won gains (such as the Inflation Reduction Act) to promote an agenda of continued fossil fuel extraction. For those who believe climate change demands urgent, sustained action, it has been frustrating to say the least.
We are, however, taking the long view. We continue to be thrilled to work with increasing numbers of production companies to reduce their shoot emissions, and we are ever thankful for those who continue to generously fund CAP's UK
June 2025
tree planting as a way of acknowledging their unavoidable emissions.
Nothing makes us happier than getting money to the passionate & professional planting partners we have to plant at locations in the UK, and this year we have been able to hand them record sums. 4250 CAP trees were planted across 15 different sites in Somerset this last planting season, and this coming season we already have 10,000 trees funded & ready to go in.
If you're not already working with Carbon Aware, we’d love to help you make your productions more sustainable. And if you're one of the brilliant, forward-thinking clients we already partner — thank you.

CAP CONSULTING SERVICES
If you find your best intentions to be sustainable whither under the stress of a thousand other jobs on a production, then our CAP sustainability consultants are here to help. We work with production teams & HODs in the run up to shoots to identify high carbon culprits & source green alternatives. Our Green Marshals are then available to work during shoots to oversee all recycling, and to redistribute shoot residue from food to set builds, props to leftover kit.
GREEN MARSHALS
We're so pleased to have our brilliant Green Marshals out & about on shoots where they can have a tangible effect on recycling and redistributing food & set waste.

CAP is excited to be working with the brilliant team at Quantum who hand sort the hundreds of bags of recycling we have sent them, maximising recycling & minimising waste.

We're chuffed to have connections with innovative set & prop redistributing & recycling serves Prop Up, ReCollective & Kit4Crew and food redistribution services
10,000+ TREES ALREADY FUNDED FOR PLANTING THIS WINTER 25/26
We have a fantastic number of trees ready to be planted this Winter 25/26 in 4 different locations in the UK, including the Mersey Forest, the Caledonian Forest in Scotland & Ham Hill in Somerset.

Dormice
Since the inception of dormouse surveys at Ham Hill in 2019,over 20 dormice have been found, together with nesting evidence for more than 40. The discovery has been welcomed, in part because the dormouse is rare and enchanting, but also because they are a great indicator that woodlands are in excellent condition.
The woodlands at Ham Hill, as with so many of Britain’s woodlands, are fragmented. This November 2025, we will be planting 2000 trees (1,838 of which have been funded by the fantastic Stink Films) to link two strips of woodland (Horses Wood & Pitt Wood). This will extend both dormouse range and forage opportunity. With this in mind, forage hedging will be planted to include hawthorn, blackthorn & hazel.
TREE PLANTING ESSENTIAL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE
Tree planting alone will not stop climate change in its tracks, but it is one of the most tangible & hopeful actions we can take and it has a critical role to play. The Government's climate watchdog, The Climate Change Committee, tells us that tree planting is essential for achieving net-zero by 2050 because of the carbon sequestering abilities of regenerative woodland.
And they have good news: according to their 2025 annual report, this has been a good year for tree planting in the UK. 20,700 hectares of new trees were planted, a 59% increase compared to the previous year and the highest rate in two decades. It helps nudge up the UK's national tree cover which is currently at 13%. With a target of 17% by 2050 there is still a lot to be done however.
Of course, we cannot place all or hopes in trees. Reducing emissions at source remains the absolute priority. This is why CAP advocates reducing shoot emissions wherever possible first, and only then acknowledging those emissions that cannot be avoided by planting trees.
