Hedge Tree Planting at the Geranium Trust in Somerset

The Geranium Trust is a charity that provides a safe haven for anyone experiencing bereavement, isolation, loneliness or abuse in Yeovil. It is a 26 acre site owned by Terrance 'Paul' Palfrey who has turned the land into a thriving natural environment. Thanks in large part to funds from Stink Films, we and our partners at Reimagining the Levels helped the Trust plant 1350 hedge trees there.

Re-establishing Hedges
The hedges were planted along the old boundaries of the small fields that were once there, breaking up what had more recently become intensively farmed arable land.

Scarce Habitat
Since the Second World War Britain has lost 50% of its hedges and of those that remain 60% are poorly managed. They are invaluable as forage & habitat for insects & birds and form the corridors needed to give wildlife cover.

Comfort in Trees
The Trust has now planted 3,500 hedge plants & trees. They welcome people to come and find solace amongst them: to walk, to sit and to draw peace from the outdoor spaces. Founder & owner, Paul, also invites people to come and plant a tree in memory of loved ones.
