The Sustainability Showcase, Pinewood Studios 🎬

We were proud to be showcasing CAP at Sustainable Film's dedicated trade exhibition at Pinewood Studios last week, Thurs 9 July. They brought together a brilliant array of businesses working hard in the sustainability sector for film & TV. Having production teams, electrical departments, locations managers and sustainability leads under one roof is incredibly useful and genuinely heartening. There is a lot of hard work going on from many passionate people in this growing sector, and building stronger connections between us all helps shift the dial on meaningful action.
At CAP, our role is to help productions turn good intentions into practical action. We have sustainability consultants available to assess the carbon impact of productions, identify the biggest sources of emissions, and offer up alternatives that reduce impact while often saving money in the process. And where emissions genuinely can't be avoided, we help productions acknowledge them by investing in tree planting at carefully selected biodiversity projects across the UK.
What is becoming increasingly clear is that the solutions to many of the industry's biggest carbon challenges are out there. Whether it's hybrid generators and battery power (On Bio, NXTGen, Sunbelt, Green Voltage), smarter ways to redistribute surplus food (Olio, City Harvest), or locations that have low-carbon thinking built into them (Farm Locations), the tools are there. Better still, productions are increasingly embracing them.
This is still a young movement, and it's encouraging to see the momentum building. But the pace of climate change doesn't appear to be waiting for the pace of industry change. The more productions that engage early and embed sustainability into planning from the outset, the better.
Whatever you're already doing, consider nudging the dial a little further. Send members of your team to events like this for inspiration and R&D. Bring sustainability consultants into your production from the start. Challenge suppliers to offer lower-carbon alternatives. And where emissions are genuinely unavoidable, continue investing in biodiversity through high-quality UK tree planting and restoration projects.
