QUANTUM WASTE

Out & About in London last week I was pleased to visit the dedicated team behind the power house of recycling at QUANTUM WASTE who recycle the many hundreds of bags of rubbish sent to them by Carbon Aware & Scout Productions from the shoots we work on. They hand sort all the rubbish with 80% +/- being successfully recycled. It's an insanely impressive job and we think it's fantastic. Thank you to Harold for showing me round.
At Quantum Waste, food waste is transformed into biogas and organic fertilizer. Other materials like cardboard, paper, plastics, metal, glass, and wood are carefully sorted manually for recycling. Any non-recyclable waste is incinerated to produce energy.
Quantum is a small, entrepreneurial company with limited resources, but they're proud to process between 70 and 100 tonnes of waste monthly, achieving a recycling rate of 80% to 85%.
They operate a franchise and cooperative model where the drivers, like Harold, receive 90% of the revenue and are responsible for their expenses, while shareholders retain the remaining 10%. This structure ensures that their drivers receive the greatest benefit for their hard work. It also serves as a strong incentive for recycling: as they earn the most but also cover their costs, the more they recycle, the lower their expenses.
